A Journey
To be honest, I’m surprised I’m writing this right now. After months of having a near-completed website in the depths of my computer, I finally found some motivation to start writing this blog and finish my website. It’s ironic that this motivation came to me while in “midterm mode”, but I guess that’s the strange thing about the balance between motivation and procrastination. It wasn’t that I struggled to work on the website at all; my issue was doing meaningful work to the website. Instead of adding a new contact page or updating an API key, I spent my hours changing a color scheme or design, seeing if I liked that design, and then going back to what I had originally.
Despite importing a lot of CSS and a basic template for my website, I discovered that coding a website takes a lot more than what’s on the surface. If I would do it again, I would start by learning svelte or another compiler and go from there.
A Blog
I didn’t want to code another website. Not only would it take too long, but I also plan to make other websites that would take too long to code. So, I ended up buying a Hostinger subscription for a year, which additionally came with WordPress. Apart from the themes, I was surprised by the ability to integrate your own HTML:
Colorful Text
I wanted to see if I could put a lot of code into this feature. While the software allows it, it causes the website to lag a lot — so I would only use it for smaller, more one-time things. I now wonder what the “limit” would be before it starts to impact the performance.
Having a bit of developing experience goes a long way in these types of no-code website builders. I am finding that I can quickly crank out websites with this WordPress stuff, and the efficiency of everything makes it so you do enough each day where you feel productive and want to continue the next. Overall, I highly recommend it.
PS I thought this was pretty funny. Pretty much my demonstration of the HTML functionality accidently made my title go rainbow because I instinctively set the text to <h1>, which also happened to be the same destination as my title.
A Future
I’m not sure the exact direction I want to take this blog in the future. I will try to post when I can, which may evolve into about once a week. The blog will probably be posts on what I am doing in life, which will hopefully be a nice spread of topics with a focus on STEM.
Also, I don’t know if I should make this blog entirely personal or have friends write some posts. If I did, though, I would have to think of a name for the blog, update the profile, etc. I believe the theme I am using for this blog allows multiple authors — almost like a news station — so I wouldn’t need to add any functionality to the website itself.
In the next few days, I hope (emphasis on the hope) to make a few more posts to get the whole thing up and running. I also need to add some final touches to this blog website and my personal website, all the while studying for midterms. So, as I write this, my hope of multiple posts is beginning to fade.
But that’s all, thanks for reading, and I hope you have a nice day.
I have to make sure this works.
