Game Development
I recently decided to start learning Unreal Engine because I want to get into game development. The first programming course I took was an introduction to programming featuring the processing software in Java. Processing allowed the course to be visual, and for the final project I made a two-level escape room (see below). It took a while, but I enjoyed the long process. Anyway, two years later, the idea of making an escape room crossed my mind when my friends — who are now taking intro to programming — are doing their own final project.
Considering I had only been coding for a few months, I would say this project was quite good:
So, I decided to teach myself to use the unreal engine (or I am just starting to). I’m not sure what I want to make at the moment, but a 3-D escape room or first-person shooter game could be cool. But before that, I will probably make something a bit simpler, like a basic Parkour game or something along those lines.
Overstudying
I don’t know if anyone else has a similar problem, but I always feel like I study way too much for midterms. I just finished the first half of my midterms, and each time after walking out of the test, I feel like I wasted a lot of time studying for an anticipated harder exam. I think my issue is that I prepare for a test that will be more like a blend of each subunit, when in reality final exams are bigger picture.
Going into this next week, I will try to study better — that being less quantity but higher quality and efficiency. Instead of going over the packets and memorizing some specific detail pertaining to one unit, I will go over bigger pictures that can be applied to the smaller units. Additionally, I’ll try to do some physical activity before studying to maximize the quality and minimize any distractions.
I hope this will help, as the tests I have next week are more memorizing newer content and less reviewing older content. That means I probably should not be writing this right now, and instead get to memorizing court cases and such. But, when the sun sets at 4:45 p.m. and your afternoons are busy, the motivation to be active — to say the least — decreases. Instead, I try to do something that I like to do, such as working on a game or this blog, and then count that in the same ballpark as being active.
Web Development
Now that I am almost finished with my website, I am eager to start working on a new website for my friend and his club. The club is a smaller chapter of a larger organization, and if all goes smoothly, the goal is to have the club be the main organization for the United States. We could get the website hyperlinked on the main website, and that would hopefully increase our efforts and recognition. This project, however, will likely not take place until after midterms (so in about a week or so).
Depending on how everything goes, I may try to expand this idea/service to other clubs that I am in to hopefully extend our efforts — but that is a conversation for another day.
